Walton CSD alumni Jim Phraner (’03) has given back to his alma mater. Phraner, who owns Empire Metal Works, donated materials and supplies to make the district a new top section of the scoreboard on the football field. Phraner was a first-team Class C all-state lineman for Walton in 2002.
Thank you to Jim and his crew for this generous donation! It looks fantastic!

The Walton Central School District high school hosted its annual freshman orientation night Tuesday, welcoming incoming students and families.
The event provided an opportunity for students to meet their teachers before the start of the school year, and to get a preview of classes they will be taking. Additionally, students were able to familiarize themselves with the layout of the school, practice using their lockers, and learn where their classrooms are located.
The orientation also gave insight on what it takes to succeed in high school, including an explanation of credit requirements, and the different Regents diplomas, which helped to ease the transition and set the stage for a successful year ahead.

Construction at Townsend Elementary is coming along! The current project is currently on schedule and the district is in final preparations for the start of school year. Walton CSD will open on schedule – September 5 for students!
The project includes:
- The demolition of ceilings, classroom, and corridor walls in four second-floor fifth-grade classrooms, as well as an upstairs restroom. This allows for the removal and asbestos abatement of the original lightweight concrete floor deck system.
- Removal and replacement of ceilings in the cafeteria, four offices, a downstairs restroom, and a first-floor corridor to allow for removal of the second-floor deck, as well as installation of structural steel reinforcement before the installation of a new metal floor deck.
- Also, installation of a metal floor deck and pouring of a new lightweight concrete floor deck system, reconstruction and installation of new finishes within the second-floor fifth-grade wing classrooms and corridor; and installation of new unit ventilators within the second-floor fifth-grade classrooms.
As of August 9, all required demolition of existing finishes and systems, as well as the installation of structural steel, metal floor deck, and lightweight concrete have been completed.
In the upcoming weeks, the reconstruction of the first-floor ceilings will be completed, along with furnishing the classrooms and the final cleaning. The first-floor areas that are part of the project will be ready for use at the start of the 2024-25 school year.
Second-floor work in classrooms and corridor walls will continue into the school year, with the rooms and the corridor remaining unoccupied during the first half of the year. The anticipated finish date for this is November 2024.

Students taking driver’s education this summer took part in a session with representatives from the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) of Delaware County this week.
During the session, representatives from the ADAC took students through a sober speedway impaired driving obstacle course, as well as other activities such as a field sobriety test and other hands-on games while using impairment goggles. Though students had fun during the session, they were also taught what could happen to them legally in these situations.
The students used a pedal car to navigate the obstacle course while wearing the goggles, giving them the experience of seeing what real-life consequences can come from driving impaired. After driving the course students were given tickets for what they did wrong – such as running over a cone, or sideswiping a tree etc. It was also explained what could happen to them if this was real – such as possible punishments.
Representatives from the ADAC were Alysia Schmidt and Susan Fairchilds (prevention educators), and Bobbi Perry (recovery coach). Thank you to the ADAC for putting on this important session!

Jerrod Stanton’s bike is called “Arch.”
The front tire size is 20x2.125, with a pressure of 40 psi. The rear tire is 21.5x2.25, with a pressure of 35 psi. The bike doesn’t have a chain as it’s a walking bike. The colors are gold and the bike was created from parts of many bicycles. His favorite part is the frame.
Jaxon Backus is in the photo with Jerrod.
Note: The bikes and students we are publishing are creations made in Sal Salvia's transportation class. During the project, students learned all parts of a bicycle, and how to take it apart, and reassemble it into a new design. They also learned tool-use safety, mig welding, metal work, as well as bicycle safety. The assignment was to build a custom bike out of available bicycles. We will be sharing these throughout the month.
