Distinguished Service Award recipient Lori Cucciarre
Earlier this spring, the Walton Central School District held its annual scholastic achievement awards ceremony, which were for the 2020-21 school year.
The ceremony this year was held in the spring, though normally held in the fall.
The Board of Education also gave out its annual Distinguished Service Award. BOE Vice President Kevin Charles introduced winner Lori Cucciarre, who has served as an art teacher for more than 30 years at the district.
During her time at Walton, Cucciarre has been an inspiration to students at Townsend Elementary, encouraging them to show off their artistic talents. Townsend’s walls and other places throughout the district are often covered with artwork of Cucciarre’s students.
Traditions many have grown accustomed to at WCS also have her footprints all over them – such as the annual Chalk Art Day. This is one that students and the community look forward to each year. Classes empty out onto North Street and decorate the street each spring.
She’s also made sure there are visitors for St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, even though there are footprints left all over! Cucciarre has also been involved with Townsend’s Science Fair and has served as a coach during her tenure.
It’s the 25th year the award has been given. The award is given to somebody who has gone above and beyond in service to the Walton Central School District. A list of past winners is below.
Following the award, many Walton students were honored for academic achievement for the 2020-21 school year. Students were recognized in all departments, including science, English/language, social studies, business, agriculture/technology, health/home and career/physical education, art, and music. Superintendent Awards were also handed out.
