Memorial Day contest winners announced

The Townsend Elementary PTA held Memorial Day contests for students. Those in grades kindergarten through second colored a picture of their choice about the holiday, while students in grades 3-5 wrote an essay about what Memorial Day means.

Originally, there was going to one winner per grade level. However, with so many excellent entries, more prizes were awarded. First-place winners in the essay contest earned full-size flags that hang outside. Those who won the coloring contest received larger hand-held flags.
Some students even drew their own pictures to color, so an additional category of prizes was created for those winners as well. They each won small flags.

Second-grade teacher Christine Evans also bought each student a gift certificate to Tasty Swirl for an ice cream cone.

Artwork can be found on the district's Facebook page by clicking here. Please note, not all artwork is attached as some students took them home before they could be scanned.

Entries will be donated to the Veterans Club so members can enjoy the artwork and essays.
