Posted Wednesday, May 5, 2021

Congratulations to Jessica Worzel’s third-grade class, which was selected as the winner in the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) 35th annual Water Resources Art and Poetry Contest.

From the winning notes, the class entry was beautifully executed and showed a genuine understanding of, and appreciation for, New York’s water resources.

The contest drew more than 1,300 pieces of artwork and protection from watershed and New York City students this year.
Please visit  to watch a video of the class reading the poem.

The poem is also below:

River to Reservoir

Delaware River
Flowing
Creeks, brooks, streams
Water moving over pebbles
Algae and moss covered rocks
Flowing past destroyed towns
The spirits of Rock Rift, Rock Royal, Granton, Beerston
Flowing
Deer, fox, bear, fish, rabbits
Birds, bobcats, coyotes, raccoons,
Flowing
People fishing, kayaking, hunting,  hiking
Flowing
Drinking clean, clear, healthy water in New York City
Cannonsville Reservoir
