Walton CSD FFA members earn proficiency awards; student places at nationals

Several current and former Walton CSD FFA members earned state proficiency awards. The awards are based on supervised agriculture experiences (SAE).

The experiences are either entrepreneur projects, or placements, and students do these outside of school. To apply for the awards, students needed to fill out a detailed and lengthy application, which demonstrated what they did, what they learned, as well as an income vs. expense sheet, and goals they had and if they met them.

In the end, the application is a detailed business resume.

One of the students, senior Brynne Backus, advanced to nationals, where she earned a silver medal.

Six students this year applied and completed in their respective SAE categories. The results were as follows:

Gold
Brynne Backus (12th grade): Goat Entrepreneurship (and also advanced to nationals)

Silver
Cael Howland (12th grade): Diversified Livestock Production (also named District 4 STAR Farmer)
Camie Edwards (graduate): Equine Entrepreneurship
Sierra Tweedie (12th grade): Equine Placement
Kandra McGraw (12th grade): Forest Management and Products

Bronze
Meadow Wood (11th grade): Beef Entrepreneurship
