Walton CSD social studies teacher Marcia Albrecht has been selected to receive the Volunteer Award by the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for 2020.

Albrecht started her involvement in wrestling at Deposit, working with Hall of Fame coach Stan Elinsky. She worked as a “wrestlerette” for six years, and was also a cheerleader and a table worker at tournaments.

While attending college at Oneonta State, Albrecht served as a volunteer manager to the wrestling team, working as a scorekeeper at home and away matches, driving a van to and from matches, producing programs, and calling in results.

Following graduation, she started her career at Walton, and continued working with wrestling.

She took part in many different aspects of the sport, including helping at sectional championships, directing and scoring the annual Cuneen-Doane wrestling tournament, serving as vice president of the Deposit wrestling booster club, and working at many pee-wee tournaments in the area.

The award will be presented to Albrecht during a ceremony on September 20 in Syracuse.
