In late March, the Walton Central School District was one of 156 school districts and BOCES in New York State to receive the Utica National Insurance Group’s “School Safety Excellence Award” for 2019.

Walton was honored at the titanium level for the fourth straight year. This was the fifth year the district has been involved with the program.

Districts can earn platinum, titanium, or titanium plus levels. Schools need to reach specific criteria for each level.

The award recognizes safety efforts in the district to keep students, staff, and visitors safe. The award was presented at the 96th annual school safety seminar. Utica National insures more than 300 districts in upstate New York alone.

Acting Superintendent Larry Thomas, Rick Robinson, Walton’s Director of Technology and safety coordinator, and Art Loomis, Walton’s Dean of Students, accepted the award on behalf of the district.
