The Walton Central School District will present the musical “The Music Man” on Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30. Shows are at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

There’s trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian. By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic, and touching, “The Music Man” is family entertainment at its best. Meredith Willson’s six-time, Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957, and is a family friendly story to be shared with every generation.

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a band that he vows to organize – this despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.

This musical is known for the incredible dance numbers during such songs as “Shipoopi,” “Seventy-Six Trombones,” and “Marian the Librarian.” Other well-known songs include “Pick a Little, Talk a Little,” “The Wells Fargo Wagon,” and “Ya Got Trouble,” The cast includes thirty students from the middle and high school classes. The choreographer for the show is Erin Jones.

This production will feature Vinny Escobar in the role of Harold Hill, Mara Little as Marian, and Alaina Tweedie as Mrs. Paroo (Marian’s mother). The part of Mayor Shinn will be played by River Reed, and his wife, Eulalie, will be played by Jordan Johnston.

A special dress rehearsal will be held for senior citizens at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 28. The show is free for all senior citizens.

Tickets for the weekend shows are available at the door for $6 for students and $8 for adults. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Walton Music House and at the Walton CSD high school office for $5 (students) and $7 (adults).
