The Walton Central School District Board of Education sadly learned about the passing of BOE member Richard “Dick” DuMond, Jr. on January 28. Dick DuMond served as a member of the BOE since 2022 and was a passionate supporter of the district and students.

“He was truly a unique and irreplaceable presence among us — someone whose lighthearted spirit, dedication, and genuine warmth touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of working with him,” Walton CSD Board of Education President Graydon Dutcher said. “His contributions to our school district went far beyond the role of a board member; Dick brought a sense of joy and camaraderie to every meeting, helping to build a culture of collaboration, positivity, and mutual respect. His insights and thoughtful approach to every issue were valued deeply, and his ability to make others feel heard and appreciated will be missed by us all.

“On behalf of the entire Board of Education, I want to extend our sincerest condolences to Dick's family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him,” he continued. “As we mourn this loss, we are also filled with gratitude for the lasting impact Dick has made in our community. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we move forward. Please join me in keeping Dick Dumond's family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
