I hope this letter finds you well. Last evening, the Walton Police Department made an arrest in connection with the recent social media threats made to our school district. The media release can be viewed in the Reporter: https://www.the-reporter.net/stories/walton-police-charge-14-year-old-with-making-terroristic-threat-harassment-for-social-media-post,160308.
We thank you for continuing to be diligent in notifying us of anything you hear or see related to anything that is concerning or out of the ordinary. Each report is vetted and, if it is a new item, given to law enforcement for their assessment and investigation. We are very thankful for the strong engagement of our Walton Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff's Office, and New York State Troopers in this ongoing and stressful situation.
Unfortunately, in the last several years, the utilization of social media to threaten or cause disruption or fear has become all too common. It is important that we continue to navigate this concerning trend together with our shared objective of providing a safe school for all members of our school community. As a school district, we will always remain diligent and thank you for your diligence as well.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Additional communications will be sent, as appropriate. Please contact your school Principal or the Superintendent's office with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael MacDonald
Superintendent
