Voters in the Walton Central School District went to the polls Tuesday, May 21 and approved the proposed 2024-25 budget of $25,039,763. Because the district went over the tax cap, a super majority of 60 percent plus one vote was needed to pass the budget.
The final budget vote was:
Yes: 216
No: 84
“We want to thank the Walton Central School District community for once again supporting the budget,” Walton Superintendent Dr. Michael MacDonald said. “We appreciate the continued support of our students and staff. This budget allows us to maintain our programming and give our students the best opportunities.”
Voters also elected two members to the Board of Education. The final tally was as follows:
Tammie H. Tweedie: 261
Jacob T. Davies: 215
Voters also approved a proposition to purchase three new buses, at a net cost of no greater than $510,000. The final tally on that vote was:
Yes: 214
No: 83
Also decided was the William B. Ogden Free Library budget. That was passed by a final tally of 185-112. The library budget is voted on via the school budget because of state law; however, it is not part of the district budget.
