Congratulations to Walton CSD graduate Kirk Aikens, who was inducted into the Section Four Hall of Fame this past weekend in Binghamton!
A three-sport athlete who competed in football, basketball, and track and field, Aikens excelled on the football field.
As a senior, Aikens rushed for a school-record 1,852 yards in leading the Warriors to the 1994 New York State Class C championship. He also had 334 receiving yards and scored 28 touchdowns. He ended his varsity playing days with 2,476 yards, which was fourth all-time at Walton at the time of his graduation.
He earned the Class C co-Player of the Year honor, and was a first-team all-state selection as a running back. He also earned honors from the Press & Sun Bulletin and The Daily Star.
In track, he placed second in the 200 meters at the 1995 Section Four championships, representing Walton at the state meet. He still holds the 15th-fastest time in the 100 meters among all schools currently in the Midstate Athletic Conference. He also letters two years on the varsity basketball team.
After graduation, Aikens played four seasons at Hartwick College. When he finished, he held school records in receiving yards (2,902), scoring (304 points), touchdowns (50), touchdown receptions (43), and kickoff returns for touchdowns (3). He was inducted into Hartwick’s Hall of Fame in 2005.
He currently resides in Schenectady with his wife and two sons.
